Amarok 2.4.0
Amarok no longer saves my lyrics. It displays them from the web but does not save them. When it was working correctly, I could right click any track, select "edit track details", select the lyrics tab, and the lyrics would be displayed. I could then edit and re-save them. Now when I select the lyrics tag on any track that used to have lyrics, I get a blank page. If I type into the page and select Save, the next time I open it the page is blank again. I tried sudo apt-get build-dep amarok and they seemed to be OK. I then marked Amarok for reinstallation in Synaptic. No help. I there a way to fix this? |

Hi Ron, you don't give us very much information, like your distro and your KDE version. But to me, when you save something and it isn't saved, it indicates either permission problems in your files, or a problem in your database, which is where lyrics are saved.
It might help if you run Amarok from the console, and watch what happens in the output when you click Save. Here is a basic question, though - how do you normally shut Amarok down? If you do not shut it down with Quit from the Amarok menu, or use Control + Q, your database will not be shut down properly. Reinstalling Linux applications rarely is called for. |

KDE 4.4.4.5 on Ubuntu Lucid.
I guess I can consider the problem resolved, although I cannot say exactly how. After un-checking Lock Layout (which may be unrelated) and rebooting a few times, Amarok resumed its normal behavior. I had a prior problem of a different nature for which I requested help that also did the same thing- mysteriously repaired itself. I am never comfortable with magical repairs, but I can't complain because it now works. But there is absolutely no doubt that it was broken for a while. The tip on running from console for debugging is a good one I will try to remember before pestering the community as soon as a problem shows up. So the post was not a total waste of time. And I do quit Amarok before shutting down, so that was never a contributing factor. Thanks for the reply. |

Lock layout is all about keeping your present screen layout. If you uncheck it, you can undock the panes, and stack them, tab them, or even get rid of them entirely. So usually it's safest to Lock layout if you are satisfied with the way Amarok looks on your screen.
