Hi there!
I have quite an annoying problem with Amarok 2.4.0: When I move files in my collection (say I modified the Meta data an then used Amaroks file management dialog to rename and move files based on the changed Meta data) all statistics get. I doesn't matter if I move files in- or outside Amarok, but it seems the results aren't always the same. In some cases the ratings managed to survive, while all other stats got lost. I also tried the option to write statistics to files, but that didn't change anything. I've absolutely no clue wh this happens. All files are in OGG format using Amarok 2.4.0 (GStreamer backend) with KDE 4.6.1 and OpenSUSE 11.4. Any help or piece of advice is very welcome. |

Ratings should be kept if a) metadata is changed or b) file location is changed, but not both simultaneously.
If you're still getting data loss or you want to do both of these at the same time, you can use the amarok_afttagger program from the command line to insert tracking tags in files that will ensure they're tracked through any changes. |

I guess this should work, but it doesn't. Maybe I'm still doing something wrong, but I have no idea.
I can change meta data and refresh my collection data or even restart Amarok and wait a while. I also tried to do a touch on the directory the files are located in. If I rename or move the files using Amaroks own dialogue afterward, statistics still get lost. Even if ratings are kept, everything else just vanishes. This even happens with "write stats to file" enabled. Amarok doesn't read the information, so I've no idea for what this feature is actually useful. I could understand that info might get lost when modifying files outside of Amarok, but I guess it should be able to track changes made through its own interface. I'm not aware of what afttagger does what Amarok doesn't, so maybe someone is willing to give me a quick tour here. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Okay, I read about the afttagger now and might give it a try. Still not sure why my actions lead to data loss. |
