Please help (if you can) as this now seems to be causing issues in Dolphin (when it's trying to read the CD).

I am running Kubuntu with KDE upgraded to 4.6.2 (nice desktop and effects BTW).

Anyway long story short, i can play AudioCD with mplayer in CLI buit i can not play it with Amarok or any other GUI player (tried SMplayer, VLC).

Here are some of the debug messages i collected and some things i already discussed on Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1705396

It comes down to this. Kubuntu 10.10 - Amarok can recognise and plays the CD, but only IF i start Amarok with debug command from terminal
Upon upgrading to kde 4.6.2 Amarok can now recognise the AudioCD disk but it can not play it. SImply nothing happens. Even with debug mode on. I tried to dump the output to a file (cause i can't copy the whole thing) but it didn't happen.

As a side effect every time i open dolphin, dolphin becomes real slow as computer tries to read and mount the CD.

Additional info:
- all is OK with CD (tried more than one)
- i have a CD/RW connected direclty to sound card+ with ATA cable to mobo and DVD-RW connected only via SATA cable. None works.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I don't think this is the issue as the linked post says that KsCD can play it. But in my case none of the GUI players can play the CD. Not to mention that the provided link is an open discussion and there is no solution there that i see.

In addition to that Dolphin get's slowed down as it tries to mount it. even when it succeeds i can't play the CD if i double click the "file"/song. It gives some strange link to /home/documents

I would really appreaciate if someone would read my linked thread (i only linked it so i don't have to write everything and all troubleshooting here again).

When trying to play the file it seems the "file" on audioCD the "file" is "mounted" in the wrong place. Or at least it tries to mount it. For example in SMplayer you are supposed to give it informaiton where the AudioCD is mounted on. but no matter what i choose nothing happens and device is not found.

While a forum member reports that he can play CD normlaly in Amarok in KDE 4.6.2

Gregor, if you had searched the internet and both this forum and the bugs list you would know this is related to the HAL -> Udev transition that happend in Kubuntu and KDE. Not much we can do about that, sorry.

I think I have answered this question at least about 20 times by now.

I am not sure what this means. Does this mean that Kubuntu can't play AudioCD in GUI? I am asking because a user there told me he had no problem playing it (in 10.04 and 10.10 version and with latest KDE installed).

Additonally if it's not possible to play it in Kubuntu now, why was it possible to play it in Amarok's debug mode (in a bit older KDE version) then? Also is there a solution to this? Or just a bug report.

Moreover even this post on the same forums shows that user is able to play CD in VLC which again i am not able to do.

I checked Amarok Help and it says i can play audioCD. Like i said it's not just Amarok. So it has to be something to do with KDE or like perhaps as you said in another post it's implementation.

I haven't been following this thread, so forgive me if this has already been said. Are you sure that Phonon is set up correctly? It wasn't on my system, and I had to fiddle to find the best settings. Look at System Settings > Multimedia > Phonon. Try each of the backends in turn, using the test button each time. VLC is said to be a good choice these days, but gstreamer worked better for my sound card. Late 4.5 versions and 4.6 have a screen for testing speaker setup - does that work as you expect?

Just some thoughts, based on the problems I had but no longer have.
