Hi,

I am on Kubuntu 11.04/Amarok 2.4.0 and kinda beginner on Linux (although I've been using it for about 3 years!)

My collection in Amarok is over 1500 tracks and generally it works really great for me. One thing I think however, is that initially edits to genre, ratings, etc were not written back to the tracks, but just maintained by Amarok.

More recently I've had the ratings etc written back to the file so any new tracks I add to my collection are all updated nicely but of course all old tracks remain untouched. If I manually reapply a rating or update something on an old track I see it written back to the file which is great.

However, is there a script or way to get ALL the old tracks updated with the current ratings etc?

Thanks!

Shouldn't the stats written back to file after playing?. If so, why not play every song in your collection and all statistics are saved in the audio file.
Am I wrong here?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tested: you have to manually re-apply the actual rating for it to save. It won't automatically apply the rating back to the file

(Although admittedly I didn't let an entire track finish because I am not going to leave the laptop running playing 1500 tracks - these are Indian Classical music tracks, which are often extremely long - I roughly calculated assuming an average of 15 minutes per track, I would need to leave my laptop on for almost 2 weeks!! (Amarok isn't correctly reporting the total hours of music when I add it all to a playlist - maybe it only leaves space for a 2 digit hours?)

So I hope there is another way?

Amarok calculates wrong when the playtime exceeds 24 hours. I also observed that.
Is there any need to get the stats updated? Otherwise I would play my tracks and after a while all stats will be updated and saved to the audio file.

Hi,

Thanks for replying again. Why I'd like to get the stats updated is that when I transfer all my tracks to my MP3 player or another computer (non-Linux) I lose all that info.

I *could* play all my tracks eventually, but that would take a very long time (and each track I play I have to manually re-apply the rating for it to actually write back), so I was hoping there is a script or plugin or some utility that can do this.
