Amarok
Version 2.3.1 Using KDE 4.4.3 (KDE 4.4.3) Mandriva 2010.2 x86_64 on HP Pavilion P6680t Frequently near the beginning of a song, the music will "jump" (what we used to call "skipping" in the vinyl days). I read a post somewhere that suggested this was related to when Amarok fetches the lyrics. I can live without the lyrics, but I can't seem to disable them. If I go to script manager, it shows Lyricwiki in the installed list. If I click the uninstall, I get an error: Could not uninstall this script. "The ScriptManager can only uninstall scripts which have been installed as packages." How do I correct the jumping, or else disable whatever causes it? Thanks, JimR |

You're using a REALLY old version of Amarok and KDE. I strongly suggest you update.
You can turn scripts off in the script manager without uninstalling them; just deselect it. I've never heard of this causing issues, however. |

Unfortunately, this is the latest version of KDE and Amarok that Mandriva offer. There will likely be an update in their 2011 release, but even their RC is delayed, no date mentioned.
I'm not a big fan of going outside of the Mandriva-supplied packages for something as large as KDE. I am certain that I would land in dependency-hell, and 6-levels deep find that some requisite package was not available. FYI, I had the same problem last year under my previous machine,a Dell x586. Can't tell you right now which release of KDE/Amarok were running there. |

Well, a jumpy sound is more likely a problem with the Phonon backend you use. Please check your phonon backend and eventually try another one.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Thanks for the tip. I have Phonon-xine 4.4.1 installed as the preferred, and Phonon-gstreamer 4.4.1 as the deferred.
I tried making Phonon-gstreamer the preferred, but when I try to play an MP3, it pops up a requirement that I have to install MPEG-1 Layer 3 from Fluendo. I think that this is a pay service, that I do not want. What other x86_64 Phonon would you recommend for Mandriva? |

Your distro should provide ffmpeg plugins for GStreamer, which will provide MP3 support.

Thanks. I have the following installed, all via the Mandriva package manager. The Fluendo dialog still pops up everytime, and no sound plays.
Is there some other package that I am missing? gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-faac gstreamer0.10-cdparanoia gstreamer0.10-faad gstreamer0.10-flac gstreamer0.10-plugins-base gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-pulse gstreamer0.10-python gstreamer0.10-soup gstreamer0.10-speex gstreamer0.10-tools lib64gstreamer-plugins-base0.10 lib64gstreamer0.10_0.10 phonon-gstreamer |
