Hi,
can someone explain to me how to use dynamic collections on a nfs or smb share? I add such shares with their mount point in the local filesystem to amarok (.e.g /mnt/nas/music). /mnt/nas has an entry in /etc/fstab. But doing this this way amarok thinks that this is a local collection, right? The wiki says that the problem may be KDE's media manager. In e.g. dolphin I'm not able to use nfs shares, only "smb://<server>" is working (without mounting it to the fstab mount point). So my questions here are: 1. How (exactly) do I add nfs/smb shares to amarok? 2. How do I verify that amarok really use a dynamic collection for such shares? Sebastian |

Same problem here. I've already added an entry for the samba and nfs share to fstab:
But I cannot see any nfs/samba device in Amarok 2.4.3. |

You can't see the devices but you will see the songs on this devices in your local collection.

So do I have to add the exact mount point in my collection settings? Because I cannot see any other related settings.

So here is what I did:
The collection is on my PC, Amarok is on my notebook (connected via WLAN). I've changed the fstab (so that only artist starting with "a" are mounted):
* mounted the share on my notebook: mount /home/musik-samba * started Amarok and set /home/musik-samba as collection dir * the collection was scanned and it took 4:30 minutes, the local collection showed 3600 songs * unmounted the share: unmount /home/musik-samba * pushed "Update collection" in Amarok, the local collection showed 0 songs again * mounted the share again * pushed "Update collection" and the scan took 4:00 minutes So this does not work for me. It just does a rescan as usual. |

Don't use "Update Collection".
Did you try this: - Mount - Update collection (-> Result: 3600 songs) - Umount (-> Result: 0 songs) - Remount (-> Result: 3600 songs) There shouldnt be any need to update the collection everytime you (u)mount the share.

It happens the same when Amarok finally notices that things have changed. This takes some time.
In the meantime I've tried with my old MP3 stick. Therefore it works as I'd expect. After first mount it recognizes the device and scans the files. After unplugging and plugging in again it instantly shows the device in the collection tab again. It has an "own collection" though.

After testing this for 5-10 minutes I have to say: It doesn't work very well, too: 1. If KDE's "removable devices managment" (in systemsettings) is activated the MP3 stick sometimes shows as USB stick in Amarok, sometimes it shows as MP3 player icon. Sometimes it does not show up at all. After deactivating the removable devices management it always shows as MP3 player and it works quite OK. 2. If songs from the dynamic MP3 player collection is played and you push the small eject icon for that collection the song continues playing. If you click the next song in the playlist Amarok crashes. I'd expect that ejecting the collection stops playing and removes all playlist entries that are part of this dynamic collection. |
