i dunno about opensuse having libimobildevice installed by default but i think you should take a look at http://www.libimobiledevice.org.

on a sad note... even it appears on Amarok, it won't sync music to the device. That's my current problem. Should be ok by next Amarok release.

Hi,

I have just submitted the following patch :
viewtopic.php?f=117&t=97300&p=205331&hilit=iphone#p205331
If under Ubuntu natty, you can test the patch with my ppa : https://launchpad.net/~manu-wagner/+arc ... perimental
It should solve the issue.
You'll still face the "iphone 0 track problem", which you can solve either by reverting to a previous version of libmtp or through disabling mtp devices handling in amarok (configure, plugins)
