bump ... 2015 and still problems; ... and still no real will or concept of getting help to people!?; ... what is left from this thread right now ... frustration ... ---> I would LOVE to LIGHT it up and get real HELP and also a CONCEPT together with COMBINED FORCES.

So is there somebody who really want to bring this issue for all onto a WAY to a SOLTUION?

What I think what is needed:
1. Help to gather the right information for the helpers or developers (for example a little script which gathers the versions with information how to use it)
2. A testing scenario (like for example a script which is testing and showing what is needed to get this properly working and information on howto use it)

So this is not much and I wonder if anybody of the Amarok team have ever thought about something like this or why this is not long time ago filled in this thread in order to get forward and for everyone in favor of the Amarok project!?

I'm looking forward to get some help to fix the issue ....

In short I'm using:
3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1 (2015-04-24) x86_64 GNU/Linux
(Debian Standard installation)
KDE - Be Free! Platform Version 4.14.2
Amarok Version 2.8.0
Backends: GStreamer 4.8.0 and secondary VLC 0.8.0

Another question, you might be able to answer. What does a KDE appliction like AMAROK is worth bothering about if we have to take care on so much dependencies that it might work with one but not another distribution and version. A user expects things to work independently. Like somebody before already mentioned VLC is almost always with every system in every version working! I would greatly apprecheate this state of beeing/working for a standard application. This question might be also one for the KDE team it self. So you are welcome to link and let other people read this post as well.

Thank you, to all of you, really caring.

With LOVE from deep out of my HEART.

Known problem in current git master, see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339190

You are welcome to give a hand.

As for the dependencies: those are standard, and it is up to the distributions to package Amarok correctly so the user has nothing else to install.

FWIW: if you are talking about the gstreamer plugins for MP3 you have to install: this is out of our responsibility, some Codecs are proprietary and distributions simply can't ship those by default. So put the blame where it belongs, namely the manufacturer of the MP3 codec. You can always use OGG and FLAC for free, and with better sound quality anyway :-)

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Hello Mamarok,
why do you anser if you do have nothing to say related to my post or if you aren't anyhow helpful with a solution of my issue!
Are you here to frustrate and shoo the people away. I thought that a forum like this is for helping the users!?
You have not helped me, nor others before in this thread, neither have you pointed me out some directions or even better,
gave me detailed steps on howto resolve the issue.

If you have furhter input on what would really help then let me know, otherwhise just spare your time and breath and my nerves ;).

Hello anybody else

I't would be great if I could get AMAROK working but need step by step help towards a solution.

Thank you by my heart.

Problemdescription:
CD playback cannot be acomplished with AMAROK.
Step by Step:
1. Place CD in CD-Rom.
2. Use Device Notifier to start the CD with AMAROK.
3. AMAROK scanned CD but did not start playing and does not show the titels in the playlist.

1. Place CD in CD-Rom while AMAROK is started.
2. Go to MENU and choose OPEN MEDIA.
3. Select CD-Drive with inserted CD-Rom (not mounted yet)
4. CD-ROM is as single entry in the playlist but is not played.

Futher details on my System and Software are two Posts earlier writen in this Thread.

I am qualified to contribute only the perspective of a "layman." I was thrilled when Amarok opened for the first time yesterday and it readily handled well music files other players could not. After a few hours exploring it, I could see the intuitive strength and intelligence embodied in the program. I could scarcely believe it is the product of widespread, collaborative, freely given effort.

Then today I tried to rip a CD, and I could appreciate the issue in the posts here. In short, it didn't work. I can stumble around a Linux Mint terminal window well enough to get by with many basic tasks, but the technical level of the discussion here is too advanced to help me solve the problem.

For someone of my generation, (8086 PC), handling CDs is an integral, definitive part of managing digital music. So I agree with allcome about the importance of the problem and the need for a comprehensive solution. Yet it seems to me, as a layman, that a solution is no simple matter because there are so many disparate elements involved.

I wish I had the knowledge and the skill to survey what appears to be a deeply rooted problem that has lingered too long for something as basic as ripping or playing CDs. I am willing to do whatever I can to help, but I would have to learn a lot to be much of a contributor.

The ripping part in Amarok is not working very well, we know of the problem. Frankly, the developers only added the functionality because users requested it, but they themselves didn't see it as a necessity as with K3b there already was a very well working CD ripping application available. Amarok is meant to be a Music player, not a ripping tool, K3b is way better suited for this task.
