Hi when I try to add my MP3s flacs etc. to amarok it often freezes [seemingly dependent on what directories I am adding]. i got a backtrace using gdb with the following ending
Thanks |

You don't say what version of Amarok you're using, but from the trace the crash is in TagLib, not Amarok. I'm guessing it's a fairly old version of Amarok, as newer versions should be better insulated from collection scanner crashes. Specifically, it's in TagLib's RealMedia handling code. Report a bug in TagLib about it if you wish, but the best way of getting your library scanned is probably just to move the RealMedia stuff out of the way.

I meant move the RealMedia files out of your collection folder, or deselect any folders containing them in the collection settings.

It's from the backtrace:
Those lines refer to the RealMedia component of TagLib (the metadata tag handling library), and they're right at the top of the backtrace, so it follows they're responsible for the crash. Move RealMedia files out of the collection to be scanned, so TagLib's RealMedia components will never be called, and thus won't crash. The command `man someothercommand` will give you the manual page for that command, which explains what it does and how to invoke it. There are various quick reference cards around, e.g. http://files.fosswire.com/2007/08/fwunixref.pdf or http://www.digilife.be/quickreferences/ ... Manual.pdf, which list the basic commands and some detail on them. Or get a t-shirt of one from xkcd: https://store.xkcd.com/xkcd/#LinuxCheatShirt |
