Hi,
I'm new to linux. I have installed a new os its Oracle Red Hat Linux, its GNOME and the Kernel is 2.6.18-274.el5xen. I now want to install Amarok. However when I go to the Amarok web site I don't understand which download to choose for my os. Can Amarok be installed on this os??? Note: its not available in my yum packages. |

Why are you using Red Hat? It's targeted at servers and enterprises, not individual users.
If it's not available in the repositories, Fedora 12/13 ish packages might work on Red Hat, but I can't guarantee that. Otherwise you would have to build Amarok and any unpackaged dependencies yourself. This is not really a suitable project for someone new to Linux. I'd strongly recommend looking at a distribution designed for regular users, which will provide more comprehensive and up-to-date package repositories, such as Fedora (this will be the closest to Red Hat) or Ubuntu. |

Sentynel: Maybe he installed in enterprise environment? :>
rocky1089: Try browsing through additional RHEL repos, try EPEL and RPMFusion (or whatever it's called today). Default RHEL repos don't provide Amarok. Personally I gave up (these repos are quite bad, maybe besides EPEL) and installed rhythmbox on my RHEL. |

Well, I'm Using this Red Hat Linux because Kubuntu and Ubuntu do not work with my video card. When I try to install them (boot from disk) they both come up with the initial screen for a couple minuets with the scrolling light buttons then the screen kinda flickers a bit and then it shows the pink multicolored pixel garbage on the screen and that's all it does.
Not sure how to get around the Kubuntu and Ubuntu install problem. The PC is about 10 yrs old a P4 with one Gig of RAM. Maybe older versions or changing out video card. May have to do something like this to get More Apps to be available. May just use this PC to serve up Web pages. The Red Hat Oracle Linux loads up clean. I use the GNOME session, but I can also log into the KDE desktop session, it has both options available. However, the desktop menu options in both session types are almost the same. Before this os I was using PCLinuxOS with no problems, but it needed a refresh. |

what graphic card doesn't work with the *buntu's? have you searched their forums for a solution?
why did PCLinuxOS need a refresh and why not just update to latest version? if the older version worked and you were happy with it ............ |

I looked at the Ubuntu documentation and could not find the latest video card list, just old stuff.
Does anyone know where I can find the latest list of video cards that work with Ubuntu? The Old PClinuxOS was 2010 and not updated for a long time and when I tried to update it it crashed and would not come up after that. |

what video card do you have?
you will probably be better off posting on the *buntu forums regarding Ubuntu installation issues and should include the graphic card info |
