filenames vs what appears in amarok

Fri Nov 04, 2011 2:00 pm
Ok - this is doing my head in. My audiobook is ripped to a directory with the following filenames:

01 - Chapter 01.mp3
02 - Chapter 02.mp3
03 - Chapter 03.mp3
04 - Chapter 04.mp3
05 - Chapter 05.mp3
06 - Chapter 06.mp3
07 - Chapter 07.mp3
08 - Chapter 08.mp3
09 - Chapter 09.mp3
10 - Chapter 10.mp3
11 - Chapter 11.mp3
12 - Chapter 12.mp3
13 - Chapter 13.mp3
14 - Chapter 14.mp3
15 - Chapter 15.mp3
16 - Chapter 16.mp3
17 - Chapter 17.mp3
18 - Chapter 18.mp3
19 - Chapter 19.mp3
20 - Chapter 20.mp3

why does the book appear and play in the follow order in amarok:?

1 - Chapter 16.mp3
1 - Chapter 11.mp3
1 - Chapter 18.mp3
1 - Chapter 1.mp3
2 - Chapter 07.mp3
2 - Chapter 19.mp3
etc etc

Any clues? - amarok is not set to play randomly and you'll note it is ordered by the first number in amarok's list which is different to the first number in the filename. Obviously it is picking the info up from somewhere but how do I control this?

Did you check the tags of these files?
Also please tell us which Amarok and KDE version you are using.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Ok - I don't want to be thick - by tags I repsume you are refering to some kind of meta data inside the mp3s? If so I haven't checked the tags (and don't know how to) up to this point I thought this info was gealned through the file name (alhtough I was aware of lame extensions in mp3s).

I'm using amarok 2.4.0

In the meantime I'll look into tags...

to check tags

in Amarok collection manager (left most pane) -> local collection -> right click track -> edit track details

or use a tagging app like Kid3 to view tags

also up to 2.4.3 as 2.4.0 is a bit old

You can also right click on a track in the playlist -> Edit Track Details. You're most likely interested in the "Track number" field.
