I am running Amarok 2.40 on a linux computer running openSuSE 11.4 (x86_64). The tracks on just one folder in my local collection won't play. They appear in the Source window, and can be added to the playlist window, but then nothing further happens--the marker on the play bar stays at the left. Double-clicking doesn't make the track play, either. The tracks seem to be OK, as I can play them with Caffeine. What is wrong, and how do I get them to play?

Caffeine - you mean Kaffeine? I assume Kaffeine use Xine for audio?
it might help to upgrade to 2.4.3 which phonon backend? try changing it to gstreamer or vlc (Xine is depricated) are the characteristics of the file type and name that are different then the playable files |

I did mean Kaffeine--Sorry.
2.4.0 is the latest version offered in SuSE 11.4, and I'm reluctant to shift providers--I always get into dependency hells. I changed the backend to gstreamer preferred (it had been xine preferred with gstreamer second), but it made no difference--files in other albums played, but those in the problematic album didn't. The directory representing this album has the same permissions as the directories for playable albums, and the files have the same permissions as the playable files in the other directories. However, the names of the files were different--whereas in the playable folders, the name usually begins with a track number and has the song title (and sometimes the artist or the album name) after that, the files in the problematic folder started with the album name, then there was a percent sign, then the track number, then the song title. I changed the names of the files to remove everything before the track number, and the tracks now play! Thanks very much |

you don't say which version of KDE - if using the default kde then http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.4/ should be it, if you've updated to KDE 4.6 or 4.7 then the playground repo should have it
