Can you tell us more, such as what version of Amarok, what distro/version, what KDE version, and whether or not you are using Pulseaudio?

Sounds like something is misconfigured or broken in your audio stack. Are you using PulseAudio or ALSA? What distro are you using? Do you use KDE as your desktop environment? What version of Amarok and Phonon do you have, and what output is selected for Phonon?
n.b. it might be more useful to ask on your distro's support forums than here. |

Okay, if you don't already have it installed, install pavucontrol, then open it before doing anything with audio.
The "Playback" tab on this will show streams which are currently using PulseAudio. Test different audio sources while watching pavucontrol. Does Amarok show up? Do other outputs show up? |

Okay, something's screwy with your system if nothing is using PulseAudio. I suggest you try your distro support with your symptoms and the results from looking at pavucontrol.
