Album covers applet?

Wed Nov 30, 2011 2:30 pm
Hello,

Is there a way to configure Amarok to display album covers? Does it have such a feature?

What I need is something similar to the Photos applet, which shows random photos related to the song played, but instead of random photos I want the album cover to be displayed.

I made a screenshot to show my current layout. I want the album cover displayed in the bottom-left corner, instead of the photos applet.

I am coming from the Foobar2000 world, where I have configured the player to look for cover.(jpg|png) files into the same directory as the mp3's and to display it.

And also, can I customize the playlist further? I would like to display bolder border on top of every first track of an album, so that the tracks from different albums are visually separated from each other. (resolved)

you can use desktop widgets to display the cover art:
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Pl ... ent=127019
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Pl ... tent=93882

you can customize the playlist layout further, though maybe not exactly what you ask, using: playlist -> playlist layout -> configure. Don't know what playlist config you're using but mine differentiates albums nicely (I think it's the fault)

Amarok will look for album covers in the directory, but it looks for those named: folder.jpg and cover.jpg. To see what covers Amarok sees use the cover manager: tools -> cover manager

what version of Amarok?

The version of Amarok is 2.4.3.

I guess I will have to play more with the playlist configuration in its "Group By" part, in order to achieve better results. You are right that the default configuration is better in this sense.

As to the covers, the links you gave are leading to some desktop widgets, if I'm right, but what I'm looking for is a way to display cover images inside the Amarok itself, just as the photos on the screenshot I made.

The album cover manager is working, but it shows the cover only in a new window, that I cannot drag inside the main Amarok window.

I pointed to the widgets because you can't display covers embedded in the gui as you'd like - widgets would display the cover, though on the desktop

the cover manager shows what covers are available, allows you to find covers for albums un-covered and to change the cover used

I see. Well, I will have to write such an applet myself then, I guess. 8)

I was able to configure the playlist the way I wanted, after your "default" remark, thank you.

If you place the "current track" applet in the context panel (bottom left of your pic) it will show the cover and some added info - though I'm not sure how in the limited space it will display

in my layout it's Image

Yeah, while searching the web for a solution, I've found another guy asking how to use only the cover box info from "current track", but it doesn't seem possible neither.

CoverBling can be used, I always enable it!
there is some copyright issue with **** so it hasnt been adopted 'officially'.

cp -rf amarok/playground/src/context/applets/coverbling amarok/src/context/applets/
vi amarok/src/context/applets/CMakeLists.txt and append "add_subdirectory( coverbling )" to the file

then cmake as normal.
hope this helps.

Also, you should upgrade your Amarok version, 2.4.3 is rather old, the current version is Amarok 2.5 (released in December 2011) and Amarok 2.6 is to be released next week. For more information on where to find recent packages please refer to http://kubuntu.org/news

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Yeah, since I upgrade my Kubuntu quite often, I am already using version 2.5.
