kde 4.8
amarok 2.5 (although this problem has persisted for previous versions of both) os: gentoo amarok has been freezing constantly on me. it may or may not work when i first boot my computer, if it does i'll play a song and 'X' out of amarok, and when i try to click on the icon in the lower right panel nothing occurs. when i right click to 'quit' there is a delay of about 20 seconds, and when i click quit nothing happens. killall amarok does nothing typing "ps ax" to get job id numbers and then killing all numbers with amarok involved does nothing. in the rare instance that amarok works long enough, and i need to quit it for whatever reason, the icon goes away but it must not successfully quit but i cannot open amarok again. when i type amarok in konsole it says 'amarok is already running!' so... major problems that have persisted for awhile. |

Sounds like a problematic installation. Could you please remove the configuration files amarok* located in $HOME/.kde/share/config/ and try again? Also make sure you deactivate all 3rd-party scripts you are running to make sure it is not caused by a script.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

removing the config files deleted the only script i had (alarm) and it seems to run much better now, it hasn't frozen while i've been using it yet. however, when i quit amarok i am still unable to open it up again. it still says 'amarok is already running!'

ah but i just noticed, at the bottom of the left and middle frames there are blue boxes with no buttons (for example, no 'wikipedia' box in the middle frame. screenshot here: http://www.niutke.com/images/amarok.jpeg
that can't be right |

The middle one is a known issue for Amarok 2.5 on KDE 4.8. There is a patch available which has been sent to packagers. The left-hand one is a status bar and does not display buttons. Can you attach GDB and get a backtrace when you've quit the program but it's still present in memory and a new copy won't open, please? |

Please have a look here: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tut ... sh_reports
But as the forum states: bug reports really don't belong here but should be sent to http://bugs.kde.org

don't know what happened... without installing any scripts or anything amarok is suddenly worse than ever. i am now completely unable to open it. upon entering a kde session amarok rests in the bottom right tray of kde and does not respond to anything.

killall amarok doesn't do anything no matter how many times i execute the command, and i'd prefer to not have to delete my config files every few days just to have amarok working properly.

For a long time amarok seemed to work but recently it has been back to acting up constantly. I deleted my entire .kde4 folder earlier but amarok froze the first time i opened it back up again. i ran amarok --debug, it works fine for a minute or so, and then it freezes. as it freezes code starts coming pretty quickly and suddenly stops. that code is:
skipped my username above. the second line of code above is repeated about for about 20 lines each with a different album folder. after those 20 repeated lines the code continues:

Which exact Amarok version do you use now? Please test Amarok 2.6 beta.

wrong, there is Amarok from git as well, by using the following command:
In order to help the Amarok team, you should enable tests (by having ‘test’ in FEATURES), install debugging symbols (by having ‘splitdebug’ in FEATURES and ‘-ggdb’ in CXXFLAGS) and enable debugging assertions (by having ‘debug’ in USE) for Amarok as well.

Amarok 2.6
KDE4.9 Gentoo I have determined the problem occurs with my music collection. It is on a NAS box shared via NFS mounted to my ~/Music folder. When I delete my amarok files in .kde4/ and start amarok fresh there are zero problems; it does not freeze and I am able to quit correctly and re-open without amarok telling me it is 'already running'. Am I using amarok correctly by simply adding the ~/Music folder as my 'local collection' source even though it is not really 'local'? Why would an NFS share freeze amarok? I never have any issues watching movies on the NFS share (obviously movies are not mounted to my ~/Music folder), and clementine does not freeze, however I prefer to use amarok. |
