Hi,
Since a few days amarok crashes instantly every time I start it. I am using Amarok 2.4 on Slackware current with pulseaudio backend. It all started a few days ago I could start amarok, but each time I tried to do any change: add songs to the playlist, change the current playing song, search for titles in my collection... amarok would crash. If I was just playing, amarok would work. After that, it wouldn't even start. The debug information doesn't seem to be helpful to me. The content of the report of the last crash is following. Any help would be appreciated, I cannot listen to my music anymore.

First of all: bug reports do NOT belong in the forum.
Then your backtrace is not useful because you don't have debugging symbols available, please install those before making any bug report. Also you are using a quite outdated version of Amarok, please upgrade to Amarok 2.5 and try again. And finally: you are using the phonon-backend-xine which is deprecated and unmaintained, please use the phonon-backend-gstreamer or the phonon-backend-vlc instead. FWIW, this is a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=250062 which is solved in Amarok 2.5.

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Hi,
This was not a bug report, I know about bug.kde.org. I already have an account there. I thought it was more of a configuration problem on my site since the very same version of amarok used to work correctly until only a few days ago. Since I am a good boy, I nevertheless did what you advise me to do. In slackware current (the most up to date version) the current version of kde and amarok are KDE 4.5 and amarok 2.4. Upgrading to KDE 4.7 and amarok 2.5 is not supported so it may create new problems. There also is no debug symbols package so you have to build your own amarok package with debug symbols yourself. Which means you also have to build and install a mysql embedded static library... I also changed the backend from phonon-backend-xine to phonon-backend-gstreamer. Anyway, after all that, amarok still crashes at start up with the same behavior as previously and I can give you a backtrace with amarok symbols if you don't have any idea on what can be the cause of this new behavior. |

Did you read my last sentence in my reply? This is already solved in Amarok 2.5.
You can still try to erase the configuration files for Amarok located in $HOME/.kde/share/config/, maybe that helps

Yes, did you read my last post ?
The problem is not solved here.
I already did that, because I am not dumb... and I searched and read before posting. Could you please stop thinking I'm stupid, thanks. |

Sorry if I misunderstood you, you said that upgrading was not supported, so I understood you did not upgrade. But that doesn't change the fact that we need a regular bug report on http://bugs.kde.org with debugging symbols, else there is really nothing we can do for you.

I 'll post a bug report but do qt and kdelibs debugging symbols are also required or does amarok's is enough ?
Compiling kdelibs and Qt would be very long and painful. Thanks |

No, only Amarok since this is an Amarok problem.

It seems the situation has solved itself by its own
Upon another try, amarok started and processed the magnatune database something which took quite some time and resources and after that it seemed to work normally or at least for the moment. Thanks anyway for your help |

Hi there!
I am somewhat new to the Linux community. But I have experienced some major problems with my whole system since the last KDE update. All my little tweaks to my system seem not to like me anymore, especially Javascript on Amarok and Firefox. My last dark "Muon-Update Error" I have experienced the day I installed Kubuntu. Even now there seems to be some major issues and I have to use the "kill all" command. Restart the whole System three times. I do not like it at all. I really hope you can bring a bugfix for the Javascript-Problem. Thanks for reading |

How is this related to this thread? Also what exact problem do you have, which exact Amarok and KDE versions is this about? Please be more specific when you ask questions, else it is rather difficult to help you.
