I used to always get the captioned when starting amarok.
to get rid of it, I go to settings -> configure amarok -> configure scripts -> uncheck free music charts amarok would crash and offer to restart. After the restart the message "download of charts seem to have failed" does disappear and all is well. Just to share. unsure if it has been reported. |

The Free Music Charts website is down and the service doesn't exist anymore. You should upgrade to Amarok 2.8.

This is still happening by default with Amarok 2.8.0 every time it's opened.

Then something in your configuration files is probably causing this, try erasing or editing the amarokrc file, located in $HOME/.kde4/share/config/.

I am having this problem with Amarok 2.8 on Mageia 5. It has not worked since installing MG5. I have tried deleting the config files as suggested. Amarok is locked while trying to start so that no menu option is accessible, i.e., there isn't way through the application to change any settings. I captured the output of amarok --debug; it looks like it would go on forever. I let it run to like 3000 tracks once before killing (amarok: [AudioCdCollection] got track: "audiocd:/Track 79.wav"). Sorry if this is too much.
Thanks. |

Your problem is a different one: you hit the CD bug, this is solved in current Amarok git master, you should try Amarok 2.9 beta instead. In Amarok 2.8 you can't use a CD due to a broken CD kio slave linking. Depends also on the KDE version you use.

Thank you very much. I see now that Amarok will start and have menus accessible when there is no CD in the PC. I will see if I can figure out how to load 2.9 - guessing I probably need to add additional repositories or just try it manually. Maybe there aren't new dependencies.
Thanks again for your help, quick analysis, and reply! |

There are no new dependencies, just the same as for version 2.8. Currently only the beta is available for 2.9, but there is much improvement over 2.8 anyway so it is worth a try.
