Hello everyone
According to the status page the migration of Amarok to QT5 seems rather complete. Is there any plan in which KDE release we can expect a new version? I know there are some initiatives providing a new player (elisa). I am keen on this one (looks great) but Amarok is just so feature complete that it would be sad to abandon it. Thanks |

Rather complete is a bold statement, as some of the key parts, namely the Context View and its components, need to be ported to QML, and that work is definitely not done. So unless we find developers and contributors willing to work on this there will be no Qt5 release any time soon.
The current port is in a pre-alpha stage, people were able to build it and play music (mind you, that is not really surprising, as the sound output is done by Phonon and its components), but that is still an empty shell, as the components that make Amarok stand out from other music players are not there ![]() Don't get fooled by the wiki page, it currently only lists the items that somebody has worked on are done, everything else has simply not been added to that wiki page as nobody started working on it.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
