Managing an MP4 device with Amarok?

Sat Mar 26, 2022 7:14 pm
Hi All
I have switched to openSuse from Windows on my laptop as it was not coping with Windows 10.
I have a Sony MP4 device which I have been managing using Windows Media Player and a Sony application.
When I connected the device to the laptop it gave me an error (not yet recorded) but I just wanted to check that I should be able to manage it OK using Amarok.
Thanks in advance.

Amarok can't play videos, so it's likely not the best choice for that, try Dragon Player instead.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thanks, mamarok.
I'm only using it for music, so I'm happy to stick with Amarok.
I wanted to check that it "should just work".
When I plug the Sony NWZ-S639F I get an error which I will screenshot.
I am using Leap 15.3;
Plasma 5.18.6;
Frameworks 5.76.0;
QT 5.12.7;
Kernel 5.3.18-150300.59.60-default
Thanks

I plugged the unit in and opened Dolphin...
The message I see is:
The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.2/usb1/1-2 does not exist.

I was all set to attach a couple of images, but I haven't worked out how to do that yet!

Thanks

Sorry for the delay in answering. You can't attach images if they are bigger than a certain size, it's probably much easier to add them to a free hosting site like imgur and post the link here.

As for attaching external devices, this very much depends on the system and is not handled by Amarok, you need to connect and mount it before starting Amarok if you want to be able to use it as a music source. Depending on the device you might need some additional packages in your distribution.

[idea=][/idea]Thanks mamarok.
Are you able to suggest where I should go to ask about the USB error?
Is this within KDE's remit, or should I head for the openSUSE community?
Thanks again for your help and guidance.

Maybe try asking in the distribution forum, the underlying system is not managed by Plasma either AFAIK
