amarok and port 6666

Fri Jun 04, 2004 10:16 pm
I was freaked out today when i ran nmap on my machine. It showed port 6666 running irc-server. I seemed i have become the victim of a script-kiddie.

Later on it dawned on me that it is actually amarok which is listening to this port. So it is this port alone or does amarok listen to random ports as well?

Thanks

It's amaroK's TitleProxy listening on 6666, a simple http proxy server for extracting shoutcast stream metadata.

If 6666 is in use, it will probe ports until 7777.

wouldnt using the ports 6668 onwards be better. 6667 is used for irc servers, so it may be mistaken for an exploit.

yeah, you're prolly right. it's misleading when you watch your netstats.
i will change it to start with 6700.
