I just built beta2 (--without-arts ... duh... ).
Excellent piece of code, may I say so.
Thing is, gstreamer (latest 0.8.5 + plugins 0.8.4) don't work.
When hitting play, the button flashes, etc but the progress bar
doesn't move from the begining, no sound & guess what, the gst
engine does not appear in the process list ( ksysguard ).
gst-launch myfile.mp3 ! spider ! alsasink works on any audio file i
throw at it (mp3, ogg, wav, flac, ... ) just beautifully.
Why can't amarok start gst ?
( i obviously compiled from source & everything checks out ok )

oh, 1 more thing...
the next song button doesn't work, I mean it just restarts the current
song. If you listen for a file in a playlist it won't go through the list
to the next song but it wil forever replay the current.
Going back works ok.

This is old news. Beta2 gst-engine has a bug that prevents correct functioning in many situations. Upgrade to a CVS-Snapshot.

In fact, people should always prefer CVS-Snapshots to our beta releases, since they're fresher and have many bugs fixed. Rarely a regression will occur that would hamper a snapshot; and those are usually fixed quickly.

You probably have "Repeat Track" enabled.
