Skins!

Wed Jan 12, 2005 2:32 pm
amaroK is great, but I was just wondering if there are any plans for allowing users to create skins for it... I would love to be able to create a port of my favorite skin for winamp, that is http://www.deviantart.com/view/9420043/ (Multipass)!

Thanks!

Sorry, but there\'s need to make some improvements in look. It look dreadfully on my computer - I use \"dark\" theme and as the AmaroK has complicated look, it doesn\'t look well taking just system colors...

you could just allow to choose from some preset color schemes, I mean, others than the default.

Settings -> Configure Amarok -> Apperance -> Color scheme.
If you want the possibility to save and restore the color schemes, fill it as a wish.

Well..

There are several super karamba\'s that serve the purpose of \"controlling\" amarok.. here are a few:

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=19432
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=19437
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=11498
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=11416

They almost serve as skins for amaroK... I don\'t like to use karamba though, and these take up a lot of system resources as well.

And now, if you take a look at Noatun, and configure it and look in the plug-ins section, you\'ll notice that Noatun has several skin loaders. Why can\'t you incorporate something like this into amaroK? I know you want it to look like KDE, but sometimes a music app shouldn\'t look like the window manager, it should just match it. I\'m not asking for an elaborate skin/theme feature, I don\'t want the playlist to be skinned, just the \"player window\".

also amaroK team, please take note to the number of \"views\" of this thread, looks like a lot of people are interested in skins for amaroK.

Not really so. Just curiosity about others\' wishes. I believe there are more useful features to be implemented other than skinning and different preset colour schemes. YMMV.

Well, I think skins are silly and distract from more important things. Like when in Windows I always run Winamp with the default theme.

We\'re going to have the ability to easily install CSS styles for the context browser at some point (you can already, just not easily), which is nice.

I agree with what Erik said about having a \"skinnable controller\" of some sort.

You sure thats it..? I agreed at first but 1029 views is substantially more "curiosity" as you call it, than the rest of the forum topics..

I think it would be wise not to write off the idea of some form of skins completely.
