Feature Request: PHP Web Interface

Sat Jan 22, 2005 1:18 pm
I think amarok would be even better if it had a web interface for remotely changing the songs as well as controlling key amarok features. I would be more then happy to help out the amarok developers with this.

In fact the only reason i haven\'t started it myself already is to see if i can make it an offical part of amarok and have direct contact with the developers regarding this matter.

Thank You

Good idea. This is probarly something witch would be perfect as a script? Maybe you should visit the IRC chanel, I think most of the devs are there, and are probarly interesting in helping out creating such a add-on.

How would this be useful? If I could start something playing on a remote system through a web interface....I still can\'t hear the music if it is playing on the remote system. I don\'t really see what this would accomplish.

If you want to stream the sound through the web interface, then that is different. There are numerous apps out there to do that. Check http://freshmeat.net.

If you just want to connect to a friends computer over the internet and listen to his collection, you can already do that through the magic of kioslaves. I\'ve already connected to a friends music collection via sftp and listened to his stuff with amarok through a secure tunnel. Very nifty.

Please explain what you would use this for.

controlling a remote pc doesnt mean the system has to bo be in another room.

e.g. i\'d like to control my desktop pc (connected to the hi-fi) with my wireless notebook / pda. -> web interface.

Yes, this would make a good script. Currently in cvs there is a script to export the playlist to html, and it even includes a web server version. I suppose it wouldn\'t be too hard to extend the script to offer control.

I also think, that this would be a nice feature. Also great for Parties, you only need a Kiosk-mode Browser, everyone can select the music he wants to listen to, look at the playlist, search the database etc...

Just write some php scripts that will call dcop and this would work good.

Why make it difficult?
