Playlists not working in beta4

Mon Jan 31, 2005 10:44 pm
Hi all,

I noticed that the playlists don\'t work anymore in the last (pre4) beta. Amarok can load the playlists, but can\'t find the files anymore, so the playlists can\'t be played. If a new playlist is created (using files directly from the file borwser), you can play the files, but when Amarok is closed and restarted, the files can\'t be found again.

You are going to have to be far more specific. The word playlist means a dozen different things in amaroK. Do you mean Playlist files? Like M3U files? Do you mean from the Playlist Browser?

Re:Playlists not working in beta4

This is what I did:
1) Create a new playlist by dragging songs to the right side of the window (the one that shows the current playlist);
2) Save the current playlist by pressing the right-mouse-button above \'Current Playlist\' and select \'Save\';
3) Clear the current playlist by pressing the button next to the floppy disk on the bottom of the window;
4) Drag the playlist you\'ve just saved in to the right side of the window (make it the current playlist);
5) Now play the content.

Amarok complains that the files doesn\'t exist. This only happens with playlists (.m3u files) that were created by Amarok.
The CVS version of 20050131 has this problem and the version of 20050123 doesn\'t, I don\'t know of the versions in between.

Hope this helps

Ok, I\'ll try to be more specific.

First of all the bug is very evident because all the m3u playlists that I used to play in the old amarok versions (shown under the playlists tab of amarok) don\'t work anymore. Amarok loads the list but can\'t find the files (but the files are there of course because nothing changed in the filesystem).

Also if I make a new selection of songs dragging the files directly into an empty amarok list, then saving this selection as a playlist by using the internal Amarok feature (menu: /playlist/save playlist as), when I close Amarok and reopen it the files are not found again.

Manually editing the .m3u files doesn\'t show any syntax or path error.

Amarok 1.2beta4
Qt: 3.2.3
KDE: 3.2 BRANCH >= 20040204
ext3 filesystem

If you need any more specifical information I\'ll be happy of helping.

Same problem here.

Looks like amarok prefixes the path of the songs in a loaded playlist with the directory the playlist file (m3u file) itself is stored in.

If you select \"Edit meta info\" this error message appears:

This file does not exist: /music/playlists//music/mp3/Sylver/Chances/Sylver - Skin.mp3

/music/playlists/playlist.m3u => playlist file
/music/mp3/Sylver/... => song file

Playlists working in CVS - almost

thanks - using CVS the playlists work, as in the files are looked for in the right place, and play. :) however - FYI, the artist and album information is not loading into the playlist window.

* Load m3u file from playlist browser
* Tracks load into the current playlist window
* Only fields that are populated in the list display are Track Title and Length

Loading a smart playlist, or tracks directly from the collection browser does not manifest this behaviour.

thx

This sounds like what is happening to me. I leave all of my mp3s on my home server, but play them here at work via the fish:// kioslave. However, being a bit risky, I installed beta4 and the current playlist that I had worked, but when I cleared and went to drag-n-drop tracks from a konq fish\'d window, the track would show blank in the gui playlist and thus, would not play. Dragging the file to my desktop first, and *then* into the gui playlist worked just fine, but for legal reasons, I don\'t want my mp3\'s on my work computer. ;)

sounds like the same problem - when using saved playlists, beta4 seems to be prefixing the path to the *playlist* to the path of the file.

you can roll back to beta3, update to CVS, or hack beta4\'s playlistloader.cpp file (what I did at first, then went to CVS)

I\'d go with CVS, looks like the latest has fixed ALL the playlist issues. (thanks, guys, you so roK)

well, this is fixed. there\'s still a small problem with loading the metadata, but don\'t worry. as usually we will get it done ;-)
