Sorry, I do not know much about all the streaming stuff - just moved to another town to study and still want to listen to the radio station of my hometown. They have a realaudio stream of there program and I got mplayer to play this.

I guess that depends on the backend you use. I also guess rtsp is a proprietary protocoll of real. If xine can play it, maybe the xine-backend will play it?
