Writing/reading id3 tags

Wed Mar 09, 2005 10:29 am
Hey folks,

I\'m having trouble reading and writing to id3 tags in amaroK.

Basically, I tagged some of my song\'s genres. To make sure the tags were sticking (because in 1.1 they weren\'t), I opened up Easytag to check, but alas, genres were blank/unchanged in the id3 tags.

In IRC someone told me amaroK should be writing to both tags and its internal database. Is there something I have to set to do this? Does it require some script not included in the basic 1.2.1 version?

Thanks for any help.

Why does no one answer questions about ID3 tag writing?!

I cannot seem to get Amarok to save my id3 tags.. this is VERY bad..

Alright, so here is what i finally figured out.

It seems that Amarok IS writing id3 tags, it's just writing idv2.4 tags, which don't seem to be readable by almost anything else.
In another post it was mentioned that in SVN it was writing IDv1 tags as well.. however.. that was in July 2006.. this doesn't seem to currently be supported in version 1.4.3.. so, i guess i'll try to compile the SVN version.

Anyone know if ipod's (using the Apple firmware) can read these tags?
