Calling all musicians!

Mon May 02, 2005 11:28 pm
For the upcoming amaroK 1.3 LiveCD we\'re looking for artists who would like to contribute music to the project. The plan is to create a LiveCD in similar fashion to the last release: Containing linux with amaroK, plus a selection of freely distributable music.

The rules are as follows:

* All genres/styles are allowed
* Music must be published under the Creative Commons license
* The amaroK Team will decide whether a track is accepted

The artist will of course get full credits for his work.

We\'re looking forward to hearing your contributions! Please get in contact with our mailing list if you are interested.

markey, you should\'ve given a link to the explanation of what CC license is for those who are not aware of it:

Main web-site of the foundation: http://creativecommons.org/

Theory
=============================

About Creative Commons
(for those who faces it first time ever)
http://creativecommons.org/about/history

About the Creative Commons Music Sharing License
(explanations given in \"plain\" English)
http://creativecommons.org/license/music

About Choosing a License\'s Conditions
(regulating conditions of your license terms)
http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses/

Practical information
=============================

Using Creative Commons Metadata
(some general information, in case you\'ll want to use not only tagging of your file(s))
http://creativecommons.org/technology/usingmarkup

Using Creative Commons Metadata in Non-Web Content
(some general background information)
http://creativecommons.org/technology/nonweb

Using Creative Commons Metadata in Oggs
(explanations on how-to tag ogg files)
http://creativecommons.org/technology/ogg

Using Creative Commons Metadata in MP3s
(explanations on how-to tag mp3 files)
http://creativecommons.org/technology/mp3

markey, how do users submit the file(s)?
added: ah... sorry.. we\'re supposed to use mailing list.
It\'s not really a convenient way :ermm:

Why don\'t you put a headline at amarok.kde.org main page and provide users with more comfortable way to submit the music?

Well, this is kind of my fault for this. I was supposed to set up a page on the wiki for this, and it never happened.

If an artist wants to submit a tune I suggest this:
[ul][*]create a 44k/16bit .WAV of your track
[*]send a message to amarok-devel@lists.sf.net outlining the info about your track and your band
[*]I will get back to you on how to upload your track[/ul]

How does that sound?

BTW, thanks for posting the info on the various licenses. I\'ll transfer a lot of that to the wiki page as I work on it this weekend.

I stand for the whole track.
Really, you may happen not to catch the main theme of the track, hence miss the great track. Ain\'t no good :)

Again, I don\'t think that it is a right way to force people to subscribe to the list just to send a single file.

Can\'t you create a temporary mail account for such an event?

BTW, thanks for posting the info on the various licenses. I\'ll transfer a lot of that to the wiki page as I work on it this weekend.

:) You\'re welcome.

Well, people don\'t have to subscribe to post a message, and I will make sure everyone gets to upload that posts. I wouldn\'t look at the message and say \"that doesn\'t sound very interesting, so I won\'t let that person upload\"

if somebody sends a mail, I will have their e-mail address and I will respond. Another way would be for people to post here. That\'s fine too.

Ok, I see... I just thought that a user can\'t send a message to the list without a proper subscription. :cheer:

One more question is essential. When do you cease envisaging submitted tracks?

(I\'ve got a cool demo track of the local band Mudflower members of which I know quite well, but I have to contact them and explain on which terms this track may be released with amaroK Live. Only then I can upload the track - they play just amazing... they sound like Mudvayne and Deftones mixed up :woohoo: I just need to know the last day to contact you, because I\'d love to share this piece of music with rest of the fans of amaroK Live project :) )

You might try contacting http://www.machinaesupremacy.com - they are a awesome band and would propably agree to this, since they host many of their mp3s on their own website. They play \"sidmetal\" - labeled after c64 tunes and sound they use very often in their songs. Check them out.
