I just upgraded to Fedora Core 4, but it involved uninstalling amaroK because it isn\'t in the KDE rpm repository for FC4. I found there\'s also an issue with compiling KDE apps with gcc 4.0.0, which is the compiler you get with FC4.
so, which is likely to happen first? amaroK to appear in the repository, or gcc 4.0.1 released? Or is it worth grabbing an earlier version of gcc to compile? |

Only problem with getting the rpm is they don\'t have one that supports xine, and for those of us who severly dislike gstreamer this is a problem.

I wanted Amarok to work with MusicBrainz in FC4 so I installed from source. It isn\'t too hard, and the amarok wiki is pretty useful.
A few things to keep in mind with gcc4: 1)KDE doesn\'t support it, so get your hands on gcc-32 ----- I used \"yum install gcc-32 g++-32\" 2)You need the taglib development version. I also installed taglib from source with gcc32. 3) When installing Amarok (and taglib) from source, just do: \"./configure --enable-debug=full --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` CC=gcc32\" That should make it work fine. ![]() Cheers, Rich |

I\'d highly advise to not mix gcc32 and gcc 4 on your system. Thats just asking for pain. Upgrade to gcc 4.0.1 instead.

just in case anyone is looking for information, i found Amarok 1.3beta3 compiles fine on fc4 using gcc4, as does xine 1.1.0.
its the most stable release ive ever found for amarok on fedora, getting very few crashes. dont know if thats down to the new taglib or amarok or xine, but its all good ![]() |

Did Fedora upgrade to gcc 4.0.1? Last I heard, compiling with gcc 4.0.0 isn\'t possible due to a compiler blacklist.

i found correct line in configure file and i\'ve replaced 4 with 5 (gcc version); amarok has compiled with gcc 4 cleanly
