It seems whenever I click to change my sond while something is already playing the song seems to skip untill the next one is loaded. Im pretty sure this is just because filesystem access takes preference over amarok but it is irritation and I was wondering what could be done to fix this.

either try disabling Amarok Options> Audio> Crossfading (set it to none)
As soon as you click another song the current will stop immediately. and/Or if you use KDE KDE menu> control Centre> Sound > Sound System Check and make sure Run With Highest priority (Realtime) is ticked or enabled. |

It seems that I have done both of those and the problem persists. Not sure what to do now. I may try messing with the alsa drivers and if that doesnt work perhaps it is possible to write a script to make amarok stop what its playing before changing tracks?

I still doubt the filesystem itself is the culprit (unless your using a fragmented FAT32 drive)
Since this is beyond the scope of most of us see if www.linuxquestions.org can help there are a lot more technical people there. I guess the only other possibility is system lag slowing down the change. Amarok is a very hdd intensive database application. I keep my music and /home on a completely seperate physical hdd then the swap file/partition to minimize this. I get a delay (1-2seconds if i use hotkeys to control amarok) My internet keyboard skip for example or ALT+B skip hotkey to control amarok. This is because KHotKeys have a lower priority than amarok. that probably can be fixed Post edited by: carl0ski, at: 2005/07/15 13:32 |

I solved it. It turns out that even though it said realtime scheduling was on in the sound configuration screen it really wasnt according to the arts control program. So I searched on the interent and found from the arts site that the arts module must be given root priveledges to give itself realtime scheduling. Look Here to see the page and in short just follow these commands if you need to:
as root do: cd /bin chown root artswrapper chmod u+s artswrapper and reload the sound system. I would suggest anyone with sound problems try looking to see if realtime scheduling is actually on through the arts control module and to do this if it isnt. |
