1.3 missing features?

Sun Aug 21, 2005 10:15 pm
Hi all,

While amaroK v1.3 is good relase (I was following it all the way by svn), I think some features are missing. I read somewhere in devs blogs that 1.3 will have support for generic \"mass storage\" mp3 players. Also the so wanted autopackge is missing. And I think that volume normalising was in TODO list (but i\'m not sure if it was meant for 1.3). What are the plans for those features?

Well, not sure what blog that was, but amaroK does support mass storage devices indirectly. Check out this script http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=26850

As far as normalizing goes, it may be there wasn\'t enough time to do it. Remember, not everything in the TODO will get done, it\'s more like a place to keep track of ideas of what is wanted, not what will get done.

What about users who don\'t have an iPod? What is the point of the tab? Nothing, I suppose. We would like to make this into a general media device accessing interface, with support for multiple devices, including those chinese usb-flash storage devices. I\'m sure they are useful. No, really

And what about autopackage?

I plan to make an Autopackage before 1.3 so it should be easy as pie to install on Linux at least.

They didn\'t get into 1.3, unfortunately. I hope nothing will stop autopackage.

Cheers!

Autopackage is still being considered. We\'ve been on close terms with the autopackage devels for long, and have always been in favor of this project.

However, it\'s more difficult for KDE software to support autopackage, as we require installing into the KDE folder, to make KDE find our plugins. There are ways around this, but this requires further investigation.
