You do not need any media player when you are building a database... but amaroK has a nice feature: it can store your music in MySQL or PostgreSQL database, so you do not have to build your own database of your music.

If you want to compile amaroK you need:
1: Gstreamer
2: KDE
3: MySQL, or PostgreSQL (\'cause you want to store your music in DB)
4: any other stuff that amaroK needs (after ./configure you will be shown a list of them)

That\'s all - then you need to create interface to access DB, or browse kde-apps.org - I\'ve seen such an interface there.

Greetings.
