Fluendo GStreamer MP3 Plug-in

Tue Dec 27, 2005 11:55 am
Fluendo has recently released a free legal GStreamer MP3 Plug-in,
in a countries where the mp3 patents don\'t apply you can use the source code provided by Fluendo (or anyone else) to get legal mp3 support.
in countries where the patents apply we need the licensed binary plugin from Fluendo.
check it out here
http://www.fluendo.com/resources/fluendo_mp3.php

and carefully read the section labeled \"Issues to be aware of\"
using Amarok with that binary gstreamer MP3 plugin legal?
does Amarok has neccessary clauses for using it with non free binary only plugin in its license?
please clarify

Two possible replies.
Remember, IANAL.
1) amaroK does not do any decoding, with this in mind, it is not a problem at all..

2) based on the page you showed, the app needs to be licenced under LGPL? If this is the case, it cannot be used, as aamroK iis lcenced under GPL.
