i have a problem. in both xine and gstreamer i get very bad sound (with hisses and crackeling) on some tracks. other tracks play perfect. i have a dual boot system and the same tracks play perfect in windows. any ideas?

i have an intel 2.8, Asus p4p800 with the soundmax onboard chipset runing kubuntu and kde 3.5.1

Which sound driver does kubuntu use for your onboard sound, the one included in the kernel or the one provided by alsa-drivers to install separately? Almost certainly yours is an alsa issue. Don\'t know how kubuntu handles this, maybe in a kubuntu multimedia forum you might have a better change to find people who can help you. If you understand german ubuntuusers.de is a very helpful portal.
