I just steped over this project, and thought maybe it (or parts of it would be interesting to the amarok community and devs
http://sv1.sourceforge.net/ its GPL and written in Qt 4 and is more about looking at music (study not screensaver mode). It contains a  sdk for plug-in that extract descriptive information from audio data. Might be interesting for amarok 2.0?
