"Tunepimp (MusicBrainz tagging library) returned the following error: ".mp3 is not a supported filetype."." When I try to "Fill in tags using MusicBrainz"

I don't think this is a bug, so I'm trawling here for ideas.

Do you have libmad installed?

libtunepimp-bn seems to be getting compiled with --enable-lgpl. That disables mp3 support. But simply recompiling that lib doesn't correct the problem. Also, I'm seeing hangs after recompiling everything when trying to use the "fill in tracks ... " dialog. I'm thinking it is a bug.

Having same problem as OP, occasionally also I am told that a given file is not in Musicbrainz database.

Using Kubuntu-6.06, all updates.
Using synaptic, I've reinstalled all the libtunepimp files.  No joy.

my info:

ii  libtunepimp-bin                        0.3.0-9.1ubuntu3.1
ii  libtunepimp2-dev                      0.3.0-9.1ubuntu3.1
rc  libtunepimp2c2                        0.3.0-2ubuntu7kubuntu3
ii  libtunepimp2c2a                        0.3.0-9.1ubuntu3.1
ii  python2.4-tunepimp                    0.3.0-9.1ubuntu3.1

Just a thought, I notice that we both have:

libtunepimp2c2                        0.3.0-2ubuntu7kubuntu3
libtunepimp2c2a                        0.3.0-9.1ubuntu3.1

Are both of these libraries required, or could there be a conflict there?

Update - musicbrainz is working now.

First, I loaded synaptic, and even though libtunepimp2c2 was not checked, I right-clicked and chose 'Mark for Complete Removal'

Then I tried "dpkg -l |grep tunepimp" and sure enough, 2c2 was gone.

Musicbrainz still did not work, however, which appears to shoot down my conflict theory.

Then I read this thread, and this worked like a champ:

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+ticket/980

I didn't do the last suggestion of renumbering the compiled libtunepimp, I'll just hang on to my deb's in case the next patch breaks it again.

Hope this helps!

Edit: This didn't appear to work until the next reboot, I never shut down Amarok though, so that might be all it takes.  Didn't want anyone to get discouraged.
