How to use music from a samba server?

Mon Jul 17, 2006 10:41 pm
Hi,

I have a samba server on my home network that hosts 200GB of music data on it (encoded in FLAC). I mount the samba server from my laptop. I have configured amarok to look at this directory for music files.

The problem is that I move between home and work and other locations where I use my laptop. This means this directory is mounted and unmounted while amarok is running. This causes amarok (1.4.1) to hang and often I have to kill it and restart it. Is there a way to configure amarok to let it know that the media is on network somewhere, which may have intermittent access problems. amarok should try to resolve such disconnects gracefully and reconnect appropriately as and when it can.

thanks,
Osho

dynamic collection (recently merged in svn) is supposed to handle situations like this.
if all goes well, it might be in 1.4.2
