Amarok 1.4 is slow on FreeBSD

Tue Aug 01, 2006 7:50 am
Hi.

I use Amarok at my work on FreeBSD 6.1 as well as at home on FreeBSD 6.0.

Once FreeBSD port for Amarok 1.4.0a came out, I changed port's files to install 1.4.1 and got it. But it's slower than 1.3.9, especially the playlist (as changing it is the most frequent task) - when I drag new files there (or remove files from playlist), it just freezes up for quite a long time (~20 sec or even more). It doesn't matter whether I drag one file or entire folder of 20 files, or whether I have 5000 or 0 MP3's in my playlist.

After some time of using it on both machines, I switched back to 1.3.9 at home (because there I'm not the only one using Amarok, and others are not so used to lagging), and to 1.4.0a at work. 1.3.9 works now as fast as previously, but 1.4.0a lags as much as 1.4.1 does.

Could someone explain why is it so? Would it be fixed in future versions?

But hey, thanks for an excellent music-player :)

Amarok (now the version is 1.4.3) is still slow on FreeBSD, but it's a little faster than before - now it hangs for ~5 seconds when I drag any amount (tried with 1, 10 and 51 files) of files into playlist ;)

Am I the only one with such hang?
