I just came up with an idea how to improve amarok.
How about a fullscreen mode? What I mean is a mode like apples front row (but just for amarok, no photo, movie and so on).
Let the user navigate through his collection by artist, album, genre and stuff. When he selects an album, show the cover, album name, artist name and a progress bar with time information. Use a big font, so one could see the infos from a bigger distance.

I know that e.g. freevo does that, but i love amarok and would like such a feature to be implemented in amarok.

I hate to use MythTV / Freevo / whatever only b/c of the fullscreen-mode...
...they just don't come close to Amarok for music...so they're not really an option for me!

Yes something like that would be great. When Amarok plays through the collection it would fetch the album covers and blast them fullscreen, rather than little images. Has anything like that been worked out with a plug-in our something?

Sounds like something that would make sense for someone to implement as an Amarok script.

Though at the same time it sounds like something that would make sense for someone to implement as another program given that Amarok is not much more then its user interface and your asking for an entirely new one.

Like you don't want to use MythTV because they "don't come close to Amarok for music" but then you want an interface that's a lot like MythTV. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't get what Amarok would provide that MythTV wouldn't for a fullscreen interface.
