Amarok and Classical music database

Sat Mar 17, 2007 8:01 pm
Hello Amarok developers,

I'm working on a website (http://rondo.fr in french), which permits people to enter information about classical music CDs.

It is still in development and contains a little database (~100 CDs), but I would like to know if you would be interested to include the functionality to get the information from this database for classical music, before looking at the cddb or freedb databases.

As a developer, I would be happy to work with you.

As an example, you can get an XML representation of such an information at the address (with an XSLT for your browser):
http://rondo.fr/cddb/?id=0x440cdc18

The format is absolutely not fixed at this time (the Amarok team is the first one I'm contacting on this subject).

There is some other examples when you browse the contents of the database from http://rondo.fr

Fell free to enter information for your personal albums (after registering) (and think that the website is still in development ;) ), or email me the information to enter it myself.

Is there some reason you decided to work independently, rather than working in Music Brainz?

Music Brainz, like other databases, were created for general music and not classical music.

The classical style guide they use seems operational, but limited.

In fact, more than a website and database used to get/set information for a CD, it is a website used by people to manage their classical music collection.
The fact that you can get information for a particular CD from its ID is only a part of the project.
