Sony Hardware Support

Wed Apr 18, 2007 10:05 pm
I know that there was a previous discussion on this, but it has come to my attention that the .omg format may have been cracked with 3rd party transfer software now available - unfortunately I have only found one for linux (java based: http://nwe00xmp3man.sourceforge.net/) and that doesn't support my hardware series.

It has also come to my attention that there is a winamp plugin  available to transfer mp3 etc on to sony hardware: http://nwe00xmp3man.sourceforge.net/, so it should now be possible to have support for sony software in Amarok.

It would amazing great to get sony hardware support for linux users in general.

I've been a little bit more research into this and I found the Grab Your Music software design to decode the atrac format and allow you to transfer your files to any computer, also playback direct from the device, but this only for windows. I found a thread in which the developer explained the encoding of the atrac (.omg I believe its called).

http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=369

It would really be nice to be able to use sony walkman products on linux. Hope this helps, even with just decoding the atrac file format for playing.

The ml_sony project, at sourceforge provides a winamp plugin for manging files. It looks like it also has the making of a cross platform access layer, for reading device information.

As well as Sony's proprietary .omg format, most new hardware supports a modified .mp3 format. It would not, in my opinion, be too difficult to integrate this into Amarok.

I woul like to also use this implementation.

Question to the developers: Is it possible to implement this feature ?
