Synchronize vs Transfer?

Can anyone explain to me the difference between "Synchronize to Media Device" and "Transfer to Media Device"?
I'm using a Philips GoGear 1620, which works fine with Amarok since version 1.4.6, incidentally. |

Synchronise to Media Device = make the same tracks appear on both device and computer
Transfer to Device = only copy the tracks you select to the device
