I'm sure we all remember the great iPod Shuffle failure from a couple years ago. Rather than pay Apple to reset/restore it, I tossed it into a drawer.

Last night when I was trying to get Amarok/Gentoo to automatically recognize my new iPhone, I pulled out the old Shuffle and popped it into the USB port.

WELL .. Amarok pops a window which says something like "It appears that your iPod is not (something) ... shall I initialize it for you?" ... well sure enough, I hit YES and the iPod started working again after 2 years ... Haaahahahha!!
