smb share in /etc/fstab not working

Thu Aug 09, 2007 3:26 am
I have searched google the forums and the wiki i came across some very useful instructions and they work for the playlist but not for the collection builder.  Most of these state that the remote system must be mounted in order for this to work so i have added the following line to /etc/fstab

//I925/1_MUSIC          /home/c0mputerking/Music/Musicsmb      smbfs  rw      0      0

This mount work perfectly and amarok can add the files to the playlist. also does its scan and completes everything looks good except my collection is always empty.

oh ya i use freebsd 6.2 stable and amarok 1.4.5

give me a collection or give me death!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's have a look at the wiki:

If fuse and sshfs are available (not for Windows yet) for your remote system (where you have the music on), try them! It is much less of a hassle to set up than samba and provides encryption, too. If needed I can tell you how to set things up, just post back here.

Bye, tirabosco.

I already looked at http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Samba that is why i added the line to my /ect/fstab a little confused as to if amarok wants a read only or a read write share.  So i gave it read write and can reaad and write from my laptop that has amarok installed on it.

The share is on a window box but the laptop in question is FreeBSD or PCBSD can/do i need to use fuse or sshd do not want to learn any new tricks right now samba is working fine for everything except amarok collection engine.

Besides i read here http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Dynamic_Collection that amarok does not play nice with those yet anyway.

whatever you put in fstab has to match exactly the permissions on the share. For example, if the samba share is defined as ro in smb.conf then you must specify ro in fstab. Similarly, if the share is defined as rw, then set it rw in fstab.
