I would prefer that album art is showing as soon a album is listet.

For example, sorting my collection by Artist / Album i'd prefer album art is shown as soon as i browse an artist and it's diverse albums are shown.
Not only if I browse a specific album.

PS: You might move this to the usability area.

It was like this when the feature first was introduced. But this was changed because
1. Too slow, especially if you only group by Album
2. Took too much vertical space.

Wait for Amarok2 and CoverBling 

makes sense,
