I have an iPod shuffle and all seems fine. It mounts ok and I can transfer and remove songs from the device and play them from it on the machine. However why I unmount the iPod and try to listen to the songs the iPod tells me that it's empty.

Any idea what's going on?

If you have not done so, you should  set your iPod model: in the media device tab go to the iPod button and use the corresponding sub-menu.

Ok, I had it set as shuffle 3rd gen, but then I thought... there are no 3rd gen shuffles, so I set it to 2nd gen and hey presto.
