Try the xine Phonon backend instead. The GStreamer backend is known to be buggy.

Could you please give some more information about your distribution? And what do you mean, Amarok doesn't open, the application doesn't run at all? Then something is wrong in your installation.
If you can't play mp3 files this is simply because you don't have the right codecs installed, but without more information about your distribution I can't tell you what to install.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I use OpenSuse 11.1 with KDE 4.3.2.
When I install the phonon-backend-xine and execute amarok, he doesn't open, and show this error:

...which is a crash in Phonon, not in Amarok. You should ask your distribution, there is little we can do on our side, sorry :(

Test button in phonon configuration works? You can try to use Juk or Kaffeine to test if problem happens only with Amarok or, as Mamarok explain to you, is a general Phonon problem.

You can try to remove phonon related files you can found here ~/.config/kde.org/ and reinstall your card audio using YaST. Maybe this can help.

You can check incorrect version packages (marked as red in YaST) and remove all because, with the change of package names openSUSE there is a high probability you have incompatible packages installed.

The players that matters are Kaffeine, Dragon Player and Juk because they using Phonon. Smplayer or Songbird fortunately don't use Phonon to play files.

If you don't have package dependencies problems few we can do to fix your problem so, you can wait for fresh packages, try to compile Amarok yourself or look for other alternatives to listen your music.

I tested Kaffeine and they don't play too.

So, I have to wait for other phonon's version.

Thanx!

So Mamarok was right. There is a know problem with Phonon if pulseaudio is installed and running. If you have installed try to uninstall it.

You could found useful information here

That said, I have PulseAudio running here with Phonon on Kubuntu 9.10. It wasn't without problems (some stuttering initially), but now it works.

But in general Mamarok is right: This can be problematic.

PS: Bug fixes for Phonon are already in the pipeline :)

I read somewhere that Pulseaudio don't works well in all distributions and with all soundcards. I uninstall it because locks my intel soundcard.

About Phonon, that's good news because I like so much Amarok but actually I have a lot of problems with other programs that not use phonon if I'm using Amarok :(.
