Feature requests, praise, rants

Thu Nov 12, 2009 5:43 pm
"Feature requests, praise, rants and other general Amarok discussion" is the title of this subforum.
So why was the topic below closed by Mamarok?
Seems you confound this subforum with "Usability", where constructive critics should be posted.
Looks a bit like censorship to me.

I don't actually want to see rants there. Maybe we should change the description.

Rants are not constructive. They can be done in the shower or so. Not in our forum however.

Mark, whom do you mean with "our"?
Hopefully the whole community of Amarok users and not only the developers?
And if you don't want to see them, just don't open them.
But forbidding those posts, sorry, but that isn't your decision alone.

I think this depends on the definition of "rant". Answers.com has this to say about it:

"To speak or write in an angry or violent manner."

So, no, I don't think that angry or violent posts are fine. Ideas for improvements can be expressed without anger or violence :)

E.g. you sometimes criticize Amarok when you are unhappy with certain aspects, but I mostly perceive this as fair and well thought out. This is totally ok in my book. Thoughtless ranting is not.

@Dieter Schroeder:

Basically you are right. KDE (and probably amarok too ;) ) is all about community.

But there are some rules to follow to have a nice atmosphere, these can be read on

Nevertheless, the topic opener in question was convinced to finally send the question to the right place.
