I guess you mean *.aac files?
Make sure you have the kubuntu-restricted-extras package installed for the necessary codecs.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Strange, can you play those with another application like Dragonplayer or VLC?

What about Dragonplayer? Since VLC doesn't uses Phonon, but Dragonplayer does, as does Amarok, it would be interesting to know that.

mmm, that's very weird. I'm using kubuntu 9.10, with xine, and amarok plays AAC files just fine :S

Maybe those AAC files are encoded with DRM (Digital Restriction Management)?
Then xine sure wouldn't be able to play them.
