Hi kira, you need the GStreamer Phonon backend. Then on «kcmshell4 kcm_phonon» or «qtconfig» switch the Phonon engine.
connect(post, SIGNAL(readSignature()), qapp, SLOT(quit()));

Don't worry, we don't punch people for using Gnome... we just pity them ![]()
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

hi, thankz... i have been able to install the Streamer Phonon backend, and now the option to change the engine en amarok to gstreamer is available... however, when i do that, amarok doesnt reproduce anything... besides, in the qt4 configuration, im not able to change anything related to phonon... in fact it says that GStreamer Phonon backend is not available.... ![]() as a reference, here is a screenshot of qt: http://www.udec.cl/~lgomezg/screenshot13.png so, what did i do wrong??

Phonon-GStreamer seem to be having problems[1]. Check if one of those bugs apply to you. Can you tell me why do you want to not use Xine?
(Only one of those configuration apps works, it depends on your distribution) [1] https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=gstreamer
connect(post, SIGNAL(readSignature()), qapp, SLOT(quit()));

well, because i can not reproduce acc files with amarok... and reading and asking there and overthere, it was told to me that maybe changing the engine to gstreamer instead of xine it may work... |

Confirm problem with gstreamer https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297523
If I remove xine-libs and recomplile world with USE="gstreamer -xine", then amarok plays only one track per restart. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Remove xine-lib 2. Play song 1 3. Play song 2 - you will have no sound |

hi read it and there is something that is bothering me form the comments there... someone asked if he was using pulseaudio with gstreamer? why is that question relevant?... i have to say that one in a while, my pc says that something happen to phonon and he will be using pulseaudio... ![]() |

its relevant because phonon works over pulseaudio, and amarok works over phonon.
So the bug could be located in any point in the stack. I hear that pulseaudio and phonon-gstreamer are both quite buggy. If you are using ALSA instead of pulse, then that comment might not apply to you. Are you sure that there's no plugin for xine to play what you want? |

And are you sure, you know what you're talking about? I'm in doubt a little bit. I would call this dangerous smattering. Regards m0nk

Amarok uses phonon, which is the sound framework for KDE4
Phonon uses xine/gstreamer for decoding/playback multimedia files. Pulseaudio is a soundserver like arts, nas, esound or jack and has nothing to do with decoding. It should control concurrent access to the sound hardware, provided by ALSA. It is not needed on pure KDE, because you use phonon for this. ALSA is the Linux soundsystem. For noobs: Through ALSA, applications are talking to the sound hardware. ALSA can't be replaced by pulseaudio, but by another Linux sound system like OSS. There are plugins available for sound applications to dock to ALSA. Regards m0nk
