Hey all

Wondering why Amarok cannot get cover art...I've been looking into it and it seems Amazon decided to lock out that system...BUT, Rhytembox and Banshee were both able to get cover art...ALWAYS for songs bought from the Amazon MP3 store...so, any ideas?

You need to be running the 2.2 series - Amarok no longer uses Amazon, they use last.fm and though the functionality (imho) is not as good as the 1.4 series it's there and seems to be getting better with each release

see viewtopic.php?f=115&t=74608&p=136902&hilit=last.fm+amarok+covers#p136902

I *am* running 2.2.0 :P

In the thread, it was said that artwork from metadata (Which I take to mean artist, album, etc) is not working?

I took that to mean covers embedded in tags - all I can tell you is I'm getting covers

You could try 2.2.1beta see http://kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.2.1

I'm Running 2.2.2.90:

1. "Fetch Cover" gave no results
2. I clicked on the "Details" button on the cover art dialog and saw that the Artist tag was wrong
3. Used "Edit Track Details" to correct the artist tag for all tracks in the album. This seems to work OK in the "Local Music" browser
4. Repeat 1 and 2 gave the same results (i.e. still searching for album art using the wrong artist name)

Looks like a bug. Can anyone else reproduce it?

What is the artist/name of this album? Is it a compilation? Also, fetching does not guarantee you will always get a cover back, even if tags are correct. It all depends on whether Last.fm has a cover image for that album or not.

Joni Mitchell, Blue.

But regardless of whether there is an image on Last.fm, shouldn't the Artist name that is shown when I click the Details button be the same as the Artist name shown in the Local Music browser. I'm assuming that the Details button shows the values that are sent to Last.fm

It's working here http://imagebin.ca/view/dxNk_bU.html.
What does it put as artist in the details area?

All of the tracks in the album originally had the artist id3 tag set to "Mitchell, Joni". I used "Edit Track Details" to change them to "Joni Mitchell", but when I now do "Fetch Cover", it still has "Mitchell, Joni" in the details area and fails to find the cover image. I have checked using Kid3 that Amarok has correctly set the id3v1.1 and id3v2.4.0 artist tags in all the tracks. http://imagebin.ca/view/H_6nIc.html

Ah ok, that's a different issue then. Can you update (incremental scan) your collection and then try again? And perhaps restart Amarok if that fails. Thanks.

I think it's best if you don't tag artists using sort-name styles. Otherwise things like cover fetch doesn't work too well. Listings in Amarok should already deal with "the" etc. so it isn't a big issue imo.

Tried incremental scan, and restarting Amarok and neither made a difference. Went away for an hour or so and when I got back it was working OK! So now I'm trying the same process with another album (Miles of Aisles) and I'm getting the same problems :-(
